April’s solicits were missing a few of my favorites- no J.H. Williams Batwoman cover, no delightfully creepy Severed cover- but it still had more great looking covers than I could possibly share. From final issues to covers for series that have yet to begin, here is the best of April’s comic book covers.
10. O.M.A.C. #8
I’m sad that O.M.A.C. will be ending, but I can’t imagine a more perfect final cover. Giffen and Koblish have done terrific work here.
9. Fatale #4
I tend to gravitate towards covers that are either very colorful or work with a very limited palette. This is such a simple image, but it’s really striking, and terrifically creepy. I love Sean Phillip‘s style.
8. Incredible Hulk #7 (variant)
This may very well be the cutest thing I have ever seen. I’d love to see Charles Paul Wilson III do covers more frequently.
7. Journey Into Mystery #636
I’m pretty sure a stunningly beautiful cover is required of every Journey Into Mystery issue. Stephanie Hans is a great talent, and I hope we see a lot more of her work in 2012.
6. Angel and Faith #8 (variant)
I love that this is so stylized, but the characters still look completely like themselves. Rebekah Isaacs has been killing it on this comic. Dark Horse is lucky they were able to snatch her up.
5. Men of War #8
Men of War may not have lasted long, but it had some truly impressive covers, and I hope DC has plenty more work lined up for Viktor Kalvachev. Suddenly, I can’t wait to read this comic.
4. Fantastic Four #605 (variant)
Marvel has some really great variants this month, and this cover by Michael Kaluta is one of my favorites. It doesn’t look anything like a Fantastic Four, but that’s because it’s part of Marvel’s Avengers Art Appreciation covers. It’s a neat idea, and the general coolness of the covers more than makes up for the fact they have nothing to do with the comics underneath them.
3. B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth: The Pickens County Horror #2
I’m glad B.P.R.D.‘s title tends to be pretty unobtrusive, because I’d hate to see anything get in the way of such a great looking cover. I wouldn’t have guessed that Becky Cloonan did this cover, but she’s been doing wonderful work for Dark Horse lately, so I shouldn’t be surprised.
2. Amazing Spider-Man #683 (variant)
This could be the actual Avengers movie poster, and it would be amazing. As a comic book cover, it’s even cooler. Lately, Marvel’s been finding ways to tempt me into reading Amazing Spider-Man again.
1. Resurrection Man #8
Every month, there’s at least one cover that makes me audibly say “wow”, and this month, this is it. I’m a huge fan of Rafael Albuquerque, and this cover is an excellent example of why. Looking at it makes me curious- not just about what happens in this issue, but about Resurrection Man himself. The choice of colors is really interesting, and I think it’s going to look great on comic racks.
