SOPA Shelved … For Now

The Stop Online Piracy Act, SOPA, has been met with fierce opposition, and it seems like somebody’s been listening.

After even the White House declaired their opposition to the act, it seems people have come to their senses and shelved it. This doesn’t mean that it’s been cancelled or even taken away from the list of possibilities in any way, they just want to take it back and not vote on it unless there is consensus on the bill.

House Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa says:

While I remain concerned about Senate action on the Protect IP Act, I am confident that flawed legislation will not be taken up by this House. [...] Majority Leader Cantor has assured me that we will continue to work to address outstanding concerns and work to build consensus prior to any anti-piracy legislation coming before the House for a vote.

I’ve got to say that I still consider this to be good news, but we must remain vigilant and fight the good fight. PIPA is still in the pipeline, and SOPA is going to come back for round two.
