Not too long ago, we were able to report on how Ridley Scott would be returning to his 1982 classic, Blade Runner. Today, we’ve learned a bit more.
At the time, it was quite unclear whether the movie would be a sequel, prequel, remake or something completely different, and there were no real word on when the movie was going to start production. In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, however, he claims that the new Blade Runner will definitely be the next movie he starts working on and that it is most likely going to be a sequel.
Still, none of the original cast is going to be in the movie, and the character of Deckard (played by Harrison Ford in the original) won’t be a part of the movie. This feels like it’s going to be to the original Blade Runner what Prometheus is to Alien.
While he’s still working on finding a writer, he’s pretty far through pre-production of the movie, making me think that he’s probably gotten most of the major plot lines down and knows more or less what the movie is going to be about but wants somebody to help him make it into a real movie. We’re probably still two or three years away from seeing filming, considering the time it’ll take to find a writer, a cast and complete the script.
Ridley Scott is currently putting the finishing touches on Prometheus, but has a number of things in production according to his page on IMDb, including: Stoker, World Without End, Labyrinth, The Sector, Potsdamer Platz, Emma’s War, and Pompeii. Blade Runner still isn’t on the list, but I’m sure it’ll show up on his list of active projects soon enough; he’s one busy guy.
