It’s more or less official now; Patty Jenkins will probably take the reins when Thor 2 goes into production. While many people are amazed that a Marvel movie will be directed by a woman (Punisher: War Zone was first. Look it up, folks.), more people are curious about what else we can learn about the movie.
The movie, which is still scheduled for 2013, will follow Chris Hemsworth in his first adventures after The Avengers. We still know very little about the plot, but can be fairly sure that we’ll reacquaint ourselves with Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins and Jaimie Alexander. I’m sure Tom Hiddleston will be in there somewhere, too, but that all depends on how the story lines of The Avengers pan out.
Another interesting detail is that 2013 will see the release of Iron Man 3 as well. I wouldn’t put it past Marvel to use these two movies as a vehicle leading into The Avengers 2 and Captain America 2, which probably means introducing a new conflict, villain and story line.
Chris Hemsworth, talking about Patty Jenkins, has said:
She has a great take on the story and a solid grasp on that kind of universe. Branagh read every comic book he could get his hands on. She also looked like she had done her homework.
I still think it’s an odd choice for a superhero movie, but I have belief in Marvel Studios and am looking forwards to seeing what happens here.
