As we all know, Marvel’s got some amazing things planned for the next couple of years. We’ve covered The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Captain America 2 and Thor 2 here, but what else is coming up on the horizon?
Well, we’ve talked about how Ant-Man might be coming, now that Edgar Wright has been working on a script together with Joe Cornish. Also on the horizon is the possibility of a Guardians of the Galaxy movie coming up, something which I’m wondering if they’re not going to lead into from Iron Man 3 and Thor 2.
The third possibility that we haven’t covered very well here is The Inhumans, a movie based on the group of non-quite-human and not-quite-Kree beings that were created as super soldiers that would fight the Skrulls. In the Marvel universe, the Inhumans are a small society of their own that live their own lives. The story lines that could be drawn up here could lead in from the battle against the Skrulls in The Avengers, assuming that’s who the main enemies are, something that may or may not be true.
Kevin Feige has commented on these thoughts, saying about Guardians of the Galaxy that “There’s an opportunity to do a big space epic, which Thor sort of hints at, in the cosmic side of the universe”.
I’m quite interested in what they’ve got going here, and am a little sad to see that – due to the way rights are distributed – we’re not going to be seeing a Civil War-type story where Spiderman, Iron Man, the X-Men, Captain America and a bunch of others duke it out and fight alongside each other against other superheroes. Also, why aren’t they going forwards with a Luke Cage movie? It’s not like they’ve got a lack of actors who want in on it.
