In news that came as a little bit of a surprise to me, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters has been pushed from its original March 2012 release date and is now looking at a January 11, 2013 release date.
The reason for this seem murky, to say the least. The first half of January is usually a pretty bad time to release a movie, but with Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen and Peter Stormare in the lead roles, maybe the movie is going to be safe.
The best reason that I can think of is that Jeremy Renner might not be as big a star as he needs to be and that they’re waiting for The Avengers and The Bourne Legacy to convince us that he’s worth the visit to the cinema – similar to what we’re seeing with Tom Hardy‘s upcoming Wettest County, which I think is being artificially postponed to come after The Dark Knight Rises.
Still, I think it’s a good idea to spread out all the fairy tale movies that are coming during the next couple of months; we’re going to be tired of all of them long before the year is over.
