A TV series based on DC Comics’s Green Arrow is being planned, with Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg behind the wheels.
My first thought when hearing this is “Huh. Another series to go the way of Wonder Woman, probably”, and then nothing more. I really don’t think this’ll go very far; a pilot at the very best, before cancelling it and realizing that they’re better off focusing on something else. Not because it’s a character without promise – quite the contrary – but because I just don’t see how they can pull it off. The character is way too much of Batman-meets-Robin-Hood and has a gimmick that I don’t think translates well to television.
Justin Hartley, who played the television version of Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow, on Smallville, has apparently not been sought for the role, something that I think is a mistake. If they’re going to spin this franchise, they should be using an actor that people are already familiar with rather than building it all up from scratch.
If anything, they should just focus all their attention (and budget) on the Booster Gold series they talked about late last year; that sounds more like something I’d like to see!
