Captain America 2 – Coming Soon … ish!

We’ve suspected for a long time that the Thor, Captain America, Iron Man and The Avengers series were all thought of as trilogies. Iron Man 3 is coming soon and Thor 2 is nearing production.

Despite all this, we’ve heard very little about Captain America 2, other than a nagging suspicion that it will probably be out in 2014. Now, after an interview with actor Neal McDonough, the actor that played Dum Dum Dugan in Captain America: The First Avenger, we learn that the movie is set to begin production before the end of 2012. According to him:

They’re planning for the end of this year, because Marvel does one film at a time. So they’re going to do Thor 2 and as soon as Thor has wrapped, they’ll do Cap 2. Hopefully right after that, we’ll jump into Nick Fury because that’s the one I’m looking forward to more than anything.

I can definitely agree that Nick Fury is going to be an interesting movie, and since they’re putting Samuel L. Jackson in the same piece as both Neal McDonough and Clark Gregg, we can assume that he’s going to have been alive during both World War Two and the current era, meaning we’ll probably see something about why he’s not aging like normal people. Also, the IMDb information about the movie just sounds amazing:

A daring amateur boxer from Hells Kitchen is recruited by the Army for some top-secret assignments. He soon is promoted to captain, where he puts together the First Attack Squad, a group of elite soldiers who carry out elite missions.

The release schedule for the next batch of Marvel films are, as far as we know for the moment:

  • The Avengers on May 4th, 2012
  • Iron Man 3 on May 3rd, 2013
  • Thor 2 on November 15th, 2013
  • Untitled Marvel 1 on April 4th 2014
  • Untitled Marvel 2 on May 16th 2014

What these untitled movies are, we don’t know, even though we’ve got plenty of suspicions about what’s coming soon – more on that in a later post. One of them will probably be Captain America 2, however, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the second was Nick Fury.
