In what could be the best news or the worst cartoon news of June 2010 (well, okay, maybe the only cartoon news), we now hear that Cartoon Network is remaking Thundercats. Rather, they’re commissioning it from Warner Bros. Animation. Like I said, this could be the worst piece of cartoon news this month, but maybe this is because my hopes are low after the debacle that was the Transformers movie fiasco. But – and this is a very hopeful but! – it could also be the best piece of cartoon news this year! I remember sitting glued to the TV screen as a child, thinking that the Thundercats were absolutely awesome. Still to this day, I sometimes wonder if I shouldn’t buy the original series DVD box set.
We have very little information on the project as of yet, but we can be quite sure that neither Megan Fox nor Michael Bay will be anywhere near it. We can hope that it’s not going to be an “edgy” remake with teen versions of the original cast, similar to what J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek remake (good though it might be!) turned out to be. Judging from the artwork released so far, things look promising!
… And while writing this entry, I buckled under my own mental pressure and ordered the DVD box set from Amazon. Imp, impu, IMPULSE, IMPULSE SHOPPING, HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Honestly, these guys scare me more than criminals.
Great post ! Thundercats was about an original universe mixing fantasy (swords, magic, clothing) and science fiction (planet colonization, spaceships). An explosive mixture which left ordinary at the time. My post here: http://bit.ly/cp1PaY
